What I liked

I liked the freedom of working in a very friendly and open office setting. Free meals and snacks was a plus.

What I wish was different

Advice

Teamwork is crucial when working in an office on a project. I can’t stress that enough because when we managed to be productive as a team, it accelerated our project much faster than any individual productivity could.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • San Mateo, CA

What I liked

It's an amazing company! People at Roblox are very smart, mission-driven, and excited about the products they build. I really liked that they treated me like a full-time employee and gave me responsibilities to make a real impact on the gaming platform. I got to learn a lot about working as a software engineer and develop my programming skills. They have great benefits, awesome culture, and great work-life balance!

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer and that I had more time to work on my project. I also wish that the teams were more transparent about giving interns return offers at the end of the summer. I also wish they provided a larger housing stipend and provided more assistance with finding housing in the Bay Area before the internship started.

Advice

Be proactive and intentional with your manager about what you want to achieve at the end of the summer. If you feel like the progress on your project is going slowly and you need more resources or support, make that clear to your manager and the rest of your team. 10 weeks is not a long time to accomplish a lot so make the most of it!

Studio Team Intern

May - August 2018 • San Mateo, CA

What I liked

I loved how casual the work environment but everyone was also very helpful and truly loved their jobs.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to get up to speed with my studio team and the codesource at Roblox sooner But this is something that's more of a rite than an actual obstacle that can be changed.

Advice

Don't be afraid to go to new places where you haven't been to before. And don't let the lack of monetary gain pull you down. You're out to get experience, not money.
