I loved the experience of applying what I've learned towards real problems in industry. I learned a lot and got to work with some of the best minds in the industry.
What I wish was different
I wish I had taken more time to meet the other interns. Our work was very split up and there wasn't a lot of time for us to get to know each other very well without explicit effort.
Advice
One piece of advice would be to not be afraid to ask questions. Your managers/mentors/etc. expect you not to know a lot and they want to help you understand. They want you to ask questions and be inquisitive about their processes.

Reliability engineering intern
June - August 2021 • Waterford, NY
What I liked
Very welcoming environment, everybody was willing to help me learn and advance in the field.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more time to continue to learn before the semester started.
Advice
Don’t be shy in the beginning. It took me a few weeks to become comfortable and ask questions and it led to me wasting my first few weeks and not learning as much as i could in that time.

R & D Intern
May - August 2018 • Tarrytown, NY
What I liked
I learned a lot about the industry and different testing. I got to see a new side to chemical engineering that actually involved more chemsitry. I really liked that there were other interns as well who were working on different projects.
What I wish was different
I wish I got to see a little more chemical engineering rather than just chemistry.
Advice
I Figured out what my next ideal step would be after graduating. Advice I would share would be to keep an open mind and enjoy the experience because you can learn a lot with that kind of mindset.

Chemical Engineering Intern
May - August 2017 • Friendly, WV
What I liked
The best part was seeing all of the industrial equipment in the plant run first hand (batch reactors, distillation columns, scrubbers, etc.) A student knows the equipment on paper and how it is supposed to work, but seeing all of the units and chemistry come to life in a chemical plant is fascinating, especially when you know the real world applications of the special products.
What I wish was different
I wish that the company had provided housing assistance, but I was not going to let that get in the way of the opportunity at hand.
Advice
The biggest piece of advice I would give for a future intern is to really try to learn how to go about solving problems. As engineers, your life will be filled with problem solving. Learning how to approach problems and the methodology to go about solving problems. This is something that a future intern should really try to absorb. Also, get to know your co-workers on a level other than just talking about work. Networking is huge.
