L'Oréal

Operations Intern

June - August 2021 • North Little Rock, AR

What I liked

The work environment was positive and friendly. A lot of support from coworkers and manager. Wage was great and the program was well planned with lots of social activities with the other interns. We were able to speak to the directors for lunch & learn. The plant manager met with us every other week, very helpful experience.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Be social and reach out for help from other departments. Everyone is friendly and want to help. Look for something to do out of your comfort zone. Talk to different departments and learn what they do.

Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

My experience at L'Oreal was incredible due to the depth of hands-on opportunity that they provide to their summer interns. I was tasked with solving and presenting solutions to real-world business problems my brand was facing. My summer project was to come up with a creative concept and launch plan for a campaign that my brand was launching in 2020 and some of my ideas most likely will be implemented next year. In addition to the the robust summer project, summer interns were given access to networking with a broad range of employees from fellow past interns all the way to Presidents of brands and even the CEO during our summer intern party (which was on the Intrepid battleship!) The people that I met at L'Oreal were some of the best and brightest. I can genuinely say it was the most challenging, but fun and enriching internship experience I have had thus far. Plus, the perks were great (free beauty products and discounts at the company store!)

What I wish was different

I genuinely wouldn't have changed a thing other than I wish it had lasted longer! Going to work each day was enjoyable.

Advice

1) Do your research. Know how the company is structured and operates. With 4 divisions and over 40 beauty brands, there is a lot of opportunity to do many different things at L'Oreal. Think of where you would be the best fit and why. 2) Network, Network, Network. Always work on increasing your circle! Especially at L'Oreal, it is all about hard work and who you know. Even if a connection doesn't seem like it will produce anything immediately, it could lead to a job promotion or offer down the road! Network with a variety of people from different roles, divisions, and brands throughout the company to learn more about the different opportunities at L'Oreal and get a feel for what you think you would like best.

Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The opportunity to work in the #1 beauty company in the world and gain valuable experience in operational marketing within Maybelline, the #1 beauty brand in the world. I also loved having the opportunity to network with various levels of management within the organization and gain insights into the work culture and the beauty industry.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more support from NYU Career Center and NYU Steinhardt in regards to opportunities in beauty and learning more about the industry and L'Oréal USA prior to my application.

Advice

Never be afraid to network and reach out to past alums who have experienced the internship program themselves. They will most likely have a candid version of their experience to share with you as opposed to the campus recruitment team. Also, remember to stay in touch with all of your connections from any internships because you never know where the next opportunity might come from!

Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Seoul, South Korea

What I liked

I loved my team members, and the overall work culture. I loved my work, which revolved around two major product launches; I got to directly influence their digital and social media marketing strategies.

What I wish was different

I'd say I wish there had been less over-time hours, since sometimes I had to stay late to assemble seeding kits.

Advice

I highly recommend that anyone interested in PR, marketing, or media to apply for this internship. One advice would be to be aware of how digitalization is changing the ways in which every brand should approach sales, marketing, and communication with its stakeholders.

Market Supply Logistics Intern

June - August 2019 • Clark, NJ

What I liked

Being able to connect with my team and having exposure to various different niches within the data analytics world was an eye-opening experience. One of the best skills I've learned through this was being able to learn how to automate work functions through VB and Scripting on Excel and SAP respectively.

What I wish was different

I was thoroughly satisfied with my entire internship and wouldn't have changed anything else. The only thing I wish was different was that I didn't eat as many snacks as I did.

Advice

For any future interns, regardless of wherever you're working and whatever your position is, try your absolute hardest because these companies don't hire you with the expectations that you will know everything. One key thing I took away was that after meeting with Exec- level VP's in charge of entire divisions who have been with the company for years, even they don't know everything. You as an intern, bring in a fresh perspective and way to tackle existing problems which is why they invest so much in you. You have so much power and leverage in the company for the few months that you're there, make sure to use it to the best of your learning ability. Fret not when you're given an "impossible task and deadline", because when there is a will there is a way - and you will figure out how to do it. Don't be comfortable, be nervous about going into work but always remember that you're going to come back out a better student and worker.

Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was an amazing experience altogether! I was able to work in one of the most exciting new NYC developments (Hudson Yards), and build a complete marketing campaign from scratch for the internationally known L'Oréal Paris brand. My team was so welcoming and helpful at every step of the way, and the culture of the entire company was very fun and exciting!

What I wish was different

In all honesty, it's very hard to think of anything about my experience that I didn't enjoy. It was definitely very difficult and stressful at times, but that's to be expected with the caliber of work that interns are given. All things considered, the biggest adjustment for me was definitely moving to the NYC area. It's a completely different world over there - but once you adjust after a week or two, you'll start to really appreciate it.

Advice

It sounds cheesy, but just be yourself in the interview process and on the job. L'Oréal is by far the most welcoming company I've ever worked for, and their culture really champions new perspectives and fresh thinking. I was honestly very different from a lot of the people on my team, but that allowed for us all to really collaborate and expand our marketing mindset together. There were so many different backgrounds among even just the marketing interns, that it's clear that they value individuality above all else. Everyone is incredibly friendly and genuine - so while you should prepare a lot for the interviews, don't sweat it too much and don't try to pretend you're someone else.

What I liked

I loved the culture at Loreal and additionally, the idea that I was working on real projects that had an impact on the firm.

I wish there was more of a mentorship program set up with past interns in my shoes. It would have been helpful to have a full-time employee who went exactly what I went through to help me with the in's and out's.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions.

What I liked

I enjoyed how much responsibility that I was able to receive at an intern level. I felt that my supervisors pushed me to act on my own and treated me like a real full-time employee.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a bit more structure to the internship where you really got to meet other people outside of your division.
