Research and Development Biochemist

June - August 2019 • York, PA

What I liked

I learned a variety of techniques: how to troubleshoot experiments, properly maintain a detailed laboratory notebook, exercise laboratory math skills, work one on one with clients, and develop critical thinking skills.

What I wish was different

The timing of my internship was difficult because I arrived at the time that the intern mentor was leaving. It was difficult to learn during this transition. This issue also had a positive impact because I was given more responsibility.

Advice

I found it very interesting to experience research in an industry setting. It was a much faster pace, money was always a factor that we had to be cautious of, and working in marketing, business development and research at the same time was helpful in that it helped show all of the components R&D in industry. I recommend getting internships in industry and academia.
