Campus internEXP - Studios Marketing and Outreach Intern

The Studios Network in the University Libraries seeks a creative student with interest and experience in marketing and outreach for a paid opportunity. This student will develop new and interesting ways to promote the studios: a series of emerging technology, prototyping, and media production spaces and services, to students, faculty, and the community. We hope to hire someone interested in event planning as well as experimentation and viral marketing that goes beyond the normal channels of communication offered by the university while maintaining brand adherence. 

The Marketing and Outreach Intern will work closely with Sara Sweeney Bear, the Project Design Studio Manager and Studios Outreach Coordinator, as well as Ellen Boggs, the Studios Network Coordinator. Sara has 8 years of experience working in the University Libraries with expertise in collaboration and project management, time management, event planning, K-12 outreach, and professional writing. Ellen has worked in the University Libraries for six years and has skills in managing a team, planning and hosting events, organizing projects, and teaching workshops. The intern will also work closely with the Studios Outreach Assistants team led by Sara. They will make connections across the library and the Studios to gain experience with creative marketing techniques, event planning, and public engagement. Sara and Ellen will be available in person and over digital communications according to the intern’s needs. 

Overview of the Studios

In order to provide students and patrons access to emerging technologies and collaborative spaces for creative work, the University Libraries have created a series of studios all focused on facilitating innovation. The library studios provide free access to advanced hardware and software, and encourage an atmosphere of play and discovery. Student employee positions entail interacting with all patrons of the studio, regardless of race, gender, or status, in a welcoming and friendly manner. Patrons will range from those with no experience with technology to those very familiar with the equipment and software that the Studios provide access to. Duties

  • Meet weekly with the Studios Outreach Team to develop marketing plans for studios events and programs.
  • Work with the Project Design Studio Manager and Studios Outreach Coordinator and Strategic Communications to ensure all branding and accessibility guidelines are followed.
  • Work with the Project Design Studio Manager and Studios Outreach Coordinator to brainstorm and implement creative forms of outreach and promotion outside the normal channels of communication.
  • Identify and communicate with potential contacts for outreach projects.

Required qualifications

  • Experience or coursework in marketing and/or outreach
  • Ability to follow branding and style guidelines for an organization
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Creative approach to marketing and promotion

Preferred qualifications 

  • Communications, Public Relations, and/or Marketing major
  • Experience taking and editing photos and/or video for promotional purposes
  • Experience managing a social media account for a company or organization
  • Familiarity with various emerging technologies and media production tools

Location

Hybrid remote and in-person work. Remote work can be completed at home or on campus. In-person work will occur at Newman Library.

Dress Code

Casual. No pajamas or sweaty gym clothes. 

Pay Rate

$14.00 per hour. Federal work study students eligible. 

Hours

10 hours per week dependent on successful candidate's availability.
