PAY RANGE: $17.00 - $22.00 / hour
Intern Position for Full-Time Summer 2025
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Intern Description:
This role will collaborate with experienced occupational safety and industrial hygiene professionals to perform a variety of duties that will advance the strategic initiatives of the organization from the safety and health perspective. This would include activities such as conducting workplace inspections, identifying safety and health hazard potentials and suggesting corrective actions, creating strategies to improve and promote a safe work environment for employees, creating and disseminating safety information and training materials, and assisting in industrial hygiene-related activities aimed at identifying and evaluating job-related health exposure risks of workers.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, coordinating and conducting safety and health inspections, audits, industrial hygiene sampling activities and field studies.
- Conduct visits to Evergy sites to collect, analyze data for processes occurring in the workplace to identify potential health exposures and safety hazards.
- Participate in the development of recommended solutions to workplace hazards or health risks identified during inspections, audits, air sampling surveys, or field studies.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement or Sustainability initiatives within the occupational safety and industrial hygiene group; integrate continuous improvement principles into recommendations for solutions for health and safety hazard concerns.
- Assist in ongoing efforts to promote industrial hygiene exposure assessment strategies for multiple working environments.
- Participate in various Safety and Training related meetings (staff meetings, safety meetings, etc.) and other departmental meetings as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Candidates must be a Junior or Senior currently enrolled in a university or technical program in a Safety-related degree program or a related field: Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Biology or Chemistry.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and oral presentation skills.
- Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with company personnel at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in MS Office products and databases preferred. Ability to quickly learn and become proficient in use of new computer software and programs.
- Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environments.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Working Conditions:
Office conditions with continuous attention to performing work of high quality and accuracy in a safe manner. With use of a company vehicle, periodic service center or generating station visits for presentations as well as occasional field inspections/observations involving work outdoors within driving distance of work location.
