PSA Objectives and Member Activities
- Explore a career in education while serving the community as an AmeriCorps member. Full-time participation requires 1700 hours of service in K-12 schools throughout Washington County, Oregon. While activities vary from school to school, all PSA members are engaged in:
- Tutoring and mentoring elementary, middle or high school students in math
- and/or literacy
- Developing, implementing and/or leading before and after school day activities (recreation, academic enrichment, and tutorial activities)
- Volunteer Management including recruiting and coordinating volunteers
- Specialized Projects can include parent engagement, equity work, or other
- school based initiatives.
- Participating in monthly team-based service projects in Washington County
Work Environment
The PSA AmeriCorps team strives for meaningful impact for the youth they serve, with ongoing support from the community of educators they work with and the PSA director. PSA members collaborate in weekly training and networking in addition to school site training and support.
Minimum Qualifications
The member certifies that they are a United States citizen, a United States national or a legal permanent resident alien of the United States has a high school diploma or GED, is at least 18 years of age, and will satisfy the NSCHC eligibility criteria.
