Undergraduate research (volunteer) – Crowd Behavior and Physiology

The Complex Systems Lab at Virginia Tech and the Virginia Affect & Interoception Lab at the University of Virginia are conducting joint research on the role of stress contagion in human crowd dynamics. 

We are seeking VT undergraduate students who are interested in helping with this exciting experiment, which will take place in a state-of-the-art facility in the Moss Arts Center in May and June 2024. Volunteers will receive training and experience in a variety of tasks for the crowd experiment, which may include: 

  • Instrumenting participants for cardiac physiology data, 
  • Instrumenting participants for motion capture data,
  • Experimental data collection techniques, 
  • Administering stress induction tasks, and 
  • Logistics for experiments with human subjects. 

No previous experience is required. Interested students should indicate their interest on Handshake and send their resume/CV and a statement of interest to both nabaid@vt.edu and maccormack@virginia.edu as soon as possible and by 5 pm on May 10 at the latest for full consideration.
