Geographical Information Systems Intern

POSITION:    GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS INTERN
DEPARTMENT:     Engineering
PAY GRADE:   7 - $15.75

We are currently offering two temporary Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Intern positions, where you'll gain hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment. If you are pursuing a degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, seize this opportunity to contribute to impactful initiatives and enhance your skills.

Examples of Duties: Under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager, you  
• Provide support and assistance to the Engineering Department with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) related projects, including inspection of stormwater infrastructure, collection of required geographical data, and entry of information into the GIS database. 
• Assist Engineering staff with maintaining compliance with State and County NPDES MS4 permit requirements by using your knowledge of GIS principles and practices and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES).  
• Complete inspection reports, perform data entry, and enter mapping information into the GIS System.  
• Perform tasks that support engineering analysis, report production, and designs. 
• May assist with stream walks and investigative assignments. 
• Collect, organize, and evaluate data. 
• Interact with other Engineering staff and the public using your communication and customer service skills. 
• Work individually and as part of a team. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 
• Completion of at least two (2) years at a college or university, pursuing a degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Sciences, Soil Sciences, Land Use Planning, Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field; or 
• Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.  
• Interest or experience in data collection software and techniques is desirable.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
