Summer Co-op/Cheminformatics

Department Description:

The Encoded Technologies (ET) group at GSK operates at the leading edge of drug discovery where at any given point we are seeking affinity probes or starting points for medicinal chemistry for dozens of projects across the entire research portfolio. The ET Platform includes a large collection of unique DNA-encoded libraries (DELs) and continually develops new DELs and new technologies for screening these libraries against multiple diverse protein targets of interest.

Job Description:

The Cheminformatics Student Co-op will assist the ET Analytics team in organizing, curating and analyzing the data from our DEL experiments. The role will involve developing and applying cheminformatics tools and statistical analyses to learn from our historical data and inform the design of future DELs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry or Computer Science, with a minor in Chemistry.
  • Completion of one or more undergraduate Organic Chemistry courses and a strong familiarity with organic chemical structure and synthesis at the undergraduate level.
  • Familiarity with chemical structure drawing and analysis software (for example, ChemDraw).
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 6-month co-op (June - December 2024).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cheminformatics concepts (SMILES, SMARTS, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cheminformatics software (RDKit) and either basic Python coding or data analysis tools like KNIME).
  • Familiarity with statistics.

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
