Summer Intern/Protein Design

Department Description:

In the Protein Design & Informatics (PDI) team, we focus on developing, integrating, and embedding advanced computational methods and predictive in silico models that accelerate discovery of medicines. We use computation to select the highest value and most tractable targets, identify the most progressible and highest quality small and large biotherapeutics, accelerate lead optimization across all modalities, and inform the right clinical plan to deliver impactful medicines to patients.  

Job Description:

At GSK, we have found success in using generative AI models for designing custom enzymes for specific reactions. The successful applicant will be help develop, benchmark, and test new methods and models for protein design, which will be prospectively validated on our experimental platforms.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Structural Biology, or related scientific field.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12-week internship (May/June - August).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with machine learning (ML) architectures for sequence- or structure-based protein design models (LLMs, diffusion models, flow-matching, CNNs, GNNs, etc.).
  • Experience analyzing protein-protein interactions and surfaces.
  • Experience analyzing antibody repertoires and structures.
  • Experience with molecular simulation techniques.

Benefits:

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
