Summer Co-op/Chemistry

Department Description:

The selected Summer Co-op will be working as part of GSK's Encoded Technologies (ET) chemistry team located in Cambridge, MA. The Encoded Technologies group is an integral part of GSK's drug discovery platform and is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of chemists, biologists, and data scientists applying DNA-encoded libraries and other novel technologies to the discovery of new therapeutics.

Job Description:

We are offering a full-time, 6-month co-op position located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The primary focus of the placement will be reaction development of on-DNA reactions for applications in the synthesis of DNA-encoded libraries. As a member of our team, you will also gain insight into the broader aspects of the DNA-encoded library technology platform and its application in drug discovery. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Masters or PhD in Chemistry, or similar disciplines.
  • Sufficient theoretical understanding and laboratory experience in organic chemistry (methodology and/or synthesis).
  • Skills in synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic compounds.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the 6 month co-op.
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of organic reactions, recent methodologies, reaction mechanisms, and awareness of recent developments in relevant literature
  • Motivated and driven to tackle new synthetic chemistry challenges
  • Interest in DNA-encoded libraries and associated techniques

Benefits:

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position.
