Intern, Analytical Development

Summary 

This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2024. Resume review begins in January 2024. 

The analytical development group in the Pharma Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) organization develops analytical methods for the characterization of oligonucleotides and small molecule products in the Biogen portfolio. 

 

Position Description 

The analytical development department is recruiting an intern for the summer of 2024 to learn about oligonucleotides and develop a weak anion exchange chromatography method for the quantitation and characterization of deamination impurities in these products. 

Day to day responsibilities include performing lab-based experiments, analyze and report data, and document in the appropriate documentation system. 

Work with senior group members to learn about oligonucleotides, design experiments, and troubleshoot instruments. 

At the end of this project, the intern will present their work to the wider team and document the findings in a formal report.  

Example projects may include: 

  • Identifying key contributors to the separation efficiency of deamination products from the mixture of other impurities.
  • Optimize the method conditions to achieve the best separation.

 

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate would have: 

  • Broad knowledge of separation methods and chromatography. Ideally, hands-on experience with chromatography is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in working in a wet lab and basic design of experiments.
  • Knowledge in oligonucleotide products is recommended but not required.

 

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Graduation date no earlier than September 2024

 

Education 

Graduate student working towards their Master's or PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science or a related field

This role is based on-site in Cambridge, MA
