Cell R&D Co-op Student Job Description

We are looking to add a full-time Cell R&D Co-op Student for the Summer and Fall 2024 semester (6 months in total) to our team in Beltsville, MD. This position reports to the Cell R&D Manager and will target improved understanding of our next-generation lithium battery technology at the cell level. This work will be achieved through characterization of component materials, assembly and testing of batteries, electrochemical experiments, and data analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform experimental research on battery cells and component materials under the mentorship and supervision of a Battery Scientist in the Cell R&D team
  • Fabricate lithium batteries and conduct testing with a focus on rigor, repeatability, and statistical analyses in an industrial setting
  • Effectively document and communicate experimental design, results, and uncertainties
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and promote environmental health and safety in the daily work environment

 

Required Experience:

  • Undergraduate student currently enrolled in one of the following fields: Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics
  • Completion of at least one laboratory-based undergraduate course
  • Familiarity with data analysis using Microsoft Excel and programming languages such as Python and Matlab

 

Required Skills:

  • Interest in electrochemistry and energy systems
  • Interest in learning hands-on laboratory techniques related to battery fabrication and materials characterization
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills
