Green Synthetic Methodology Co-op

Description

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join our Chemical Development department located at our Ridgefield, CT USA facility. As an Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in process chemistry by optimizing and scaling up (on 1 to 10 kg scale) a synthetic step in the synthesis of one of our drug candidates. Your work will positively impact an active, fast-moving project with potential long-term implications to human health. Additionally, you will be able to apply this methodology to non-proprietary compounds and have an opportunity to publish your work.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Learn typical industry lab and spectroscopic techniques
  • Perform experiments to improve an existing process of a novel synthetic method
  • Complete tasks in a safe and compliant manner
  • Perform literature searches as necessary
  • Properly document all experiments

Requirements
•    Must be a current undergraduate, graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing 
•    Student must be enrolled at a college or university for the duration of the internship 
•    Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred
•    Major or minor in related field of internship
•    Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university
•    Graduate and Advanced Degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities: 
•    Must have hands on experience in an organic chemistry lab
•    The ability to think critically about experimental results and use that information to conduct further experiments
•    A desire to learn common process chemistry techniques
•    Have completed at least 2 years of your graduate degree (3rd year grad student or more)
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Compensation: This position offers an hourly rate of $19 to $33 per hour commensurate to the level of degree program in which an applicant is actively enrolled. For an overview of our benefits please click here.

•    Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
•    Must be 18 years of age or older
