Winter Co-op/Biopharmaceutical Site Operations

Department Description:

Rockville Biopharm’s One Production Team (1PT for short) makes bulk drug substance for clinical and commercial use. The team operates three production facilities, or value streams, of varying cell culture capacities – 20,000 liters, 10,000 liters and 1600 liters. The site’s biopharmaceutical 200+ manufacturing associates support upstream, downstream and operations support activities of the large- and small-scale facilities, with specialized support from Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and other teams in each value stream. Value Streams represent the processes used to build product in a continuous flow of value to a customer. Our production facilities run around the clock, seven days a week, 365 days a year, with production professionals tending mammalian cells as they make their way from aseptic thaw through bulk fill, to produce biopharmaceutical medicines.

Job Description:

  • Follow appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs), protocols and batch records/logbooks to safely perform process operations and document compliantly with good documentation and data integrity practices.
  • Perform the set-up, operation, cleaning and break-down of process equipment.
  • Perform sampling procedures on various analytical instruments to analyze cell culture, solution and/or product concentration characteristics. Operate Filter integrity devices to confirm the integrity of filters pre and post use.
  • Perform process operations, equipment and instrument monitoring and trending to enable proactive identification of issues to escalate and correct with applicable departments.
  • Follow all related safety policies and procedures and put safety first by playing an active role in identifying and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or similar technical disciplines.
  • Must be able to work full-time (40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 6, 8, or 12-month co-op. 
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be able to follow detailed processing instructions as well as accurately documenting any necessary information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
