Actuaries are essential to GEICO’s continued success as one of the nation’s leading auto insurers. Their duties consist of determining rates for our various insurance products, analyzing and projecting drivers of loss trends, developing and enhancing new insurance products, examining and setting loss reserves, working with data infrastructure, and much more! Our actuaries are motivated, self-driven, and excellent analytical thinkers. GEICO’s actuaries do more than crunch numbers – they are active in determining business strategies, educating management on our profitability and projections, and communicating across departments to ensure company success. Actuaries are key members of GEICO’s management team, as a wide range of critical decisions are based on their projections and professional opinions.
As an Actuarial Intern, you will be provided the opportunity to directly impact GEICO's growth and profitability by working alongside other actuaries on various actuarial projects and analysis. From day one, your work will have an impact, forming the basis for truly transformative solutions!
During your paid 10-week summer internship, you will:
Work on actuarial projects such as rate reviews, filings, and ad hoc analysis which directly impact our company and customers
Develop and present analysis and proposals to various stakeholder groups
Gain valuable real-world experience using various technical applications such as Excel, SAS, and R
Be introduced to GEICO’s business objectives and initiatives through active participation in internship forums and departmental meetings
Participate in insurance, actuarial, and technical trainings
Participate in social and networking events
Have an opportunity to interview for a full-time position at the completion of the internship

Candidate Qualifications & Skills:
Already earned or currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Math, Economics, Actuarial Science, or other relevant major, with expected graduation between December 2024 and May 2025
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Please upload ALL transcripts as part of the application process)
Proven quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Highly effective communication skills
Strong computer skills, including Excel and some programming knowledge
Self-driven, motivated, and leadership potential
Candidates currently enrolled in college must be planning to sit for or already have completed an actuarial exam before the end of their senior year
College graduates must have passed at least one actuarial exam prior to the start of the internship
Must live within commutable distance from our Chevy Chase, MD office and work a hybrid schedule, including working from the office at least three days per week
