Scientific Research Engagement Intern

Job Summary

The Upper New Review is an environmental literary arts hybrid digital multimedia publication focused on place-based expression of creativity in all its forms, currently focused on the watershed communities of the continent currently named North America. The Upper New Review embodies the environmental humanities.

The mission of the Upper New Review is to be a curated clearinghouse for expression, exploration, research, learning, design, and stewardship for the populations and communities of the Upper New River Basin. We are building the Upper New Review to  serve as a conversation starter concerning the Upper New River Basin as a home for critical thinking, systems wisdom, ecological literacy, and a sense of place.  We want to understand the Upper New as a commons.  As a neighborhood.  As a sanctuary.  As a community of practice for all residents and visitors.  The Upper New Review is a place-based socio-cultural archive for biogregionalism, ecological literacy,  and sense of place within the Upper New River basin, as a model for the watersheds of the world.  We hope our curation and publication  serves as an entry portal to a much deeper understanding of our relationships with the natural world and its ecological complexities.

As a Scientific Research Engagement Intern, you will have the opportunity to
work with The Upper New Review leadership to strategize and execute plans for seeking out academic and industry researchers and research teams conducting disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research of all types taking place in your home and neighboring watersheds somewhere in North America.  You will engage with these individuals and groups through in-person and digital communications to solicit submissions of research narratives to the Upper New Review, as well as potential feature stories and interviews about these research endeavors.  You may be required to capture photos and videos for use on our social media and in blog/featured posts on The Upper New website.  If so, you will be responsible for ensuring proper release forms are signed prior to media capture.  You will have the opportunity to post about your own experiences on social media, and write stories/reviews of your interactions with researchers and research teams on The Upper New website.  You will be modeling appropriate behavior for members of our Stream Team, and potentially recruiting people to join in our efforts as members of the Stream Team.

If applicable, we will work within the parameters of your academic institutional requirements to ensure you are set up to receive proper course credit as a result of this internship experience, including an agreement concerning the duration and workload of your internship.
