Experiential Programs Operations Intern
Career and Professional Development, Virginia Tech

The Experiential Programs Operations Intern works collaboratively with the Professional Development and Experiential Programs team in Career and Professional Development (CPD). CPD educates and supports students as they explore and further understand themselves and career options, gain valuable experience, develop as professionals, and launch their post-graduation career plans. We want to help students discover and pursue a path to a fulfilling career. We do this through career advising services, workshops and presentations, and high impact programs. Helping students along their career development journey is why we come to work every day.
 
Position overview:
·        This paid internship ($12/hour) runs the 2023-2024 academic year, beginning August 2022
·        The intern will meet bi-weekly with the Associate Director or team
·        Work up to 10 hours a week during the fall and spring semesters (flexible) between the hours of 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday
·        Training and on-boarding will be provided on programs and job responsibilities, Career and Professional Development policies and procedures, resume coaching, and necessary software
·        Intern will determine a weekly schedule at the beginning of each semester
·        Position is on-site (with options for occasional remote work opportunities)
·        Dress for your day policy (casual for most days, business casual for meetings and events)
 
Job description:
·        Assist with the planning and coordination of professional development and experiential programs, which includes administrative and operational tasks necessary to manage programs
·        Host student information sessions for participation in CEIP and Campus internEXP, schedule session on Handshake, deliver presentation, and answer questions
·        Serve as student leader for CEIP Mentor program. Schedule meetings, coordinate communication with mentors, assist with recruiting and training of mentors
·        Facilitate CEIP discussion boards in CEP 4084/3084 internship courses
·        Conduct resume reviews with CEIP students enrolled in courses
·        Coordinate communication with students in the Student Internship and Co-op Network (SICN)
·        Assist with marketing and promotions of programs and events, create and design marketing and promotional materials
·        Assist with program assessments and data analysis
 
Required Qualifications:
·        Previous enrollment in internship course, CEP 4084 or CEP 3084, and participant of Cooperative Educations and Internship Program (CEIP)
·        Available to work in-person (on Blacksburg campus) both Fall and Spring semesters
·        Undergraduate student
 
Necessary skills include:
Strong communication and presentation skills, excellent interpersonal skills, project/event coordination, data management, attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to work independently while also collaborate and work on a team, willing to contribute new ideas, adaptability, professionalism, and a spirit of Ut Prosim.

As the Experiential Program Operations Intern you will be joining a team of 30 career services professionals and over 30 student employees dedicated to student career and professional development. CPD values teamwork and collaboration, clear and kind communication, and a positive work environment. Working in CPD is fast-paced, highly interactive, and student driven. We celebrate our team and recognize a job well done. 
 
The Experiential Programs Operations Intern reports to the Associate Director for Professional Development and Experiential Initiatives who leads a team that manages several professional development and experiential learning programs for students. The Associate Director has over 25 years of experience in career coaching, program management, and supervising students. She is also a Gallup Certified Strengths coach. She is a Hokie, earning both her B.S. and M.A.Ed from Virginia Tech, and loves living in Blacksburg. The supervisor loves to get new initiatives started and is creative, organized, enthusiastic. She appreciates a great new idea, colorful pens, chocolate chip cookies, and learning new things from her students.
