Campus internEXP - Community Research Intern

Position Description: VT Engage is looking for a highly motivated, curious, and enthusiastic student to assist with researching the relationship between Virginia Tech and The New River Valley. You will work with the VT Engage team to design, plan, and execute research related to the VT Engage mission and core values, and to ensure research integrity throughout the process. VT Engage’s mission is to facilitate leadership, service learning, ​and civic engagement experiences that advance community priorities, ​contribute to student development, ​and embody Ut Prosim (That I May Serve.). Our core values shape our approach to our work and the experiences we facilitate with campus and community partners, including advancing community-engaged scholarship. We are a team of nine committed community advocates: for both our VT community, and our NRV community.
 
Candidates must be able to effectively work both independently and collaboratively with others, applying professional behavior and sound judgment to a wide range of situations. Knowledge or curiosity of Southwest Virginia and/ or The New River Valley preferred.
 
This paid internship is open to all undergraduates at Virginia Tech. Its duration is the fall semester with the option of renewal for one additional semester. The position requires 150 hours per semester, or around 10 hours per week at $13 an hour. Work hours are negotiated and will be both in-person and remote. Reliable attendance required.
 
Job Requirements: The ideal candidate must have writing, data entry, and analysis skills with experience developing reports using Microsoft Office. Candidates should also have strong attention to details, experience troubleshooting, problem-solving, and multi-tasking.
 
Applicants must:
·     Be available to work during office hours (9 AM – 5 PM Monday-Friday) & possible weekends
·     Be flexible, responsible, dependable, and professional
·     Work well in a team environment
·     Work on projects independently
·     Have strong computer experience using Microsoft Office Suite
·     Maintain strict levels of confidentiality regarding data and information handled
·     Qualify to drive a state vehicle

·     Assist with collection of community data
·     Assist with review and analysis of collected data

·     Other duties as assigned
