Campus InternEXP - Global Engineering Intern

The Global Engineering intern works collaboratively as a co-coordinator for the Global
Engineering Ambassador program in the Office of Global Engineering, Engagement and
Research in the College of Engineering. GEER works closely with engineering faculty to create
international partnerships and coordinates opportunities for engineering students to increase
global awareness and intercultural understanding. We want to help students discover and
pursue global experiences that will prepare them for success in all engineering fields. We do this
through developing marketing and web materials, information sessions and presentations, and
high impact study abroad, research and service programs around the world. Helping students
gain international and intercultural experience is why we come to work every day.
Position overview:
● This paid internship ($13.00/hour) runs the 2023-2024 academic year, beginning August 2023
● The intern will meet bi-weekly with the Global Engagement Faculty Fellow
● Work 10-12 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters (flexible) between the
hours of 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be
required for meetings or events (no more than 5 hours per semester)
● Training will be provided on website management software
● Intern will determine a weekly schedule at the beginning of each semester
● Position is on-site (with options for remote work opportunities)

Job description
● Coordinating event planning and logistics for study abroad fairs, orientations, or other events
that promote international experiences for undergraduate engineering students
● Designing, printing and assembling posters, flyers, and brochures for study abroad fairs
● Designing and managing online surveys for events and scholarships
● Researching grants, scholarships, and other resources to support international activities
● Updating the Global Engagement webpages and social media
● Managing listservs and using social media to promote international opportunities
● Assembling information about the college for international visitors
● Serving as a liaison between the Global Engineering Ambassadors and the office, including
managing applications for scholarships and coordinating events
● Aiding in the recruitment and training of Ambassadors
● Presenting to engineering students in classes and at events to promote opportunities abroad
Required Qualifications:
Experience with a publication software (InDesign, Photoshop, Publisher, Canva, etc.)
Ability to lift and carry 10lbs
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineering student at Virginia Tech
Necessary skills include:
Enthusiasm for global learning and experiences, strong communication skills, project/event
management experience, attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to work independently
while also collaborating and working on a team, willingness to contribute new ideas, adaptability,
professionalism and a spirit of Ut Prosim.

As the Global Engineering Intern, you will be joining a team of four international education and
engineering professionals dedicated to global learning - this includes two faculty and two
graduate students. GEER values teamwork and collaboration, clear and kind communication,
and a positive work environment. Working in GEER is highly interactive and student driven. We
celebrate our team and recognize a job well done.
The Global Engineering Intern reports to the Global Engagement Faculty Fellow who
coordinates several experiential learning study abroad programs for students. The Faculty
Fellow has coordinated the Global Engineering Ambassador program and has promoted global
programs herself for about 15 years. She has held various positions across international
education and teaching, marketing and website design, and grant-writing throughout her many
years at Virginia Tech while also completing advanced graduate degrees. The supervisor has
studied abroad herself, continues to love traveling and learning about other cultures, and enjoys
introducing students to the benefits of international travel.
