Battery Processing Engineer

The Hardware Research and Technology Laboratory (HRTL) is looking for an exceptional summer interns to contribute to PARC’s research activities in lithium ion battery manufacturing. PARC's CoEx printing technology is designed to improve the performance of anode and cathode electrodes, and PARC has received funding from the US Department of Energy to further develop and demonstrate the benefits of structured porosity within battery electrodes. The successful candidate will create and characterize battery slurries from constituent powders and assist in making electrode coatings. 

Responsibilities
  • Create battery slurries from constituent powders and solvents
  • Characterize slurries through rheological and density measurements
  • Prepare battery coatings using PARC deposition equipment
  • Characterize electrode films using microscopy and metrology
  • Maintain processing and characterization data for slurries produced

Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent curriculum
  • Ability to spend at least 12 weeks onsite in Palo Alto, California
  • Laboratory experience with wet chemistry techniques such as making chemical solutions and suspensions
  • Strong attention-to-detail skills to carefully follow processing procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software
