Plant Nursery and Garden Intern

Looking for a beautiful place to spend your time as the weather warms? We are looking for interns to learn with us and share in the beauty of our plant nursery and garden. Draper Springs Nursery & Gardens was started in early 2021 in Draper, Virginia. Our plant nursery focuses on native perennials as well as food plants. We grow native plants to support the ecosystem and notably the organisms that rely on them. During the growing season the garden is truly a delight, filled with hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and many more insects and birds. We also grow and preserve our own food from the garden. We are committed to sustainable and organic practices in our nursery and our garden.

We are looking for someone who is ready to learn and to introduce new ideas to us as well. Work hours are flexible and can be discussed. Free lodging and transportation could be made available for students in between semesters.

Learning opportunities could include but not limited to:
-         Plant care
-         Plant propagation
-         Seed collection
-         Native/invasive plant identification
-         Planting
-         Harvesting
-         Food preservation
-         Soil composition
-         Building projects

We are involved with the local New River chapters of the Master Naturalists and the Native Plant Society as well as local community and pollinator gardens, offering additional educational or volunteer opportunities.

The property is located on 11 acres in Draper, Virginia connecting to the New River Trail State Park and lovely scenic views. Transportation/carpooling could be available departing from Radford, Virginia, depending on work schedules.

We find value in hard work but we also emphasize and practice the importance of stopping to enjoy our surroundings. We hope that you will consider joining us!
