Co-op, Medicinal Chemistry

Summary 
 
This application is for a 6-month student role from July - December 2023. Resume review begins in January 2023. 
 
This role will be within the medicinal chemistry group at Biogen, working to develop synthetic methodology applicable to pharmaceutically relevant scaffolds. Co-Op will work in Biogen’s state of the art chemistry labs and have access to a variety of NMRs, as well as UPLC-MS and preparative HPLC systems. Although the nature of the project will be focused on synthetic methodology, Co-Op will have option to attend medicinal chemistry meetings and learn the basics of modern medicinal chemistry. Co-Op will work alongside internal Biogen Chemists on developing interesting new methodology or towards refinement of existing methodology.  
 
 
Position Description 
 
Detailed description of role including but not limited to: 
  • Running of organic chemical reactions, typically in a parallel format 
  • Analysis of resulting data via relevant means  
  • Optimized sets of reaction variables 
 
Example projects may include: 
  • Utilization of High Throughput Experimentation for reaction development 
  • Parallel Synthetic Sequences 
 
Qualifications: 
 
  • Common Laboratory skills, such as LCMS, Column Chromatography, NMR, and Schlenk Techniques 
  • Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry 
  • Background in modern radical chemistry preferred 
 
To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university 
 
Education 
Currently enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in organic chemistry or a related discipline.
