The Biogen Gene Therapy Quality Control Safety organization is responsible for qualifying clean utility systems and area releases for the startup of the Biogen Gene Therapy manufacturing site. In this role, you will have responsibilities related to laboratory testing using aseptic techniques and interactions with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Facilities personnel. The position is located in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina with requirements to be onsite and flexibility for occasional remote work.

Quality Control Safety is a function within Gene Therapy Manufacturing divided into teams specializing in sample management, microbiology, and virology. The teams support the startup of the Biogen Gene Therapy manufacturing facility.

Position Description:

You will work in a startup environment on a team with daily activities including sampling of clean utilities, sample management, equipment and instrument maintenance, training, attending team meetings, and laboratory activities. Internships will conclude with a poster presentation of project achievements.
  • Play a key role in the startup of Biogen’s Gene Therapy facility by initiating hold time studies for water for injection, creating a protocol and final report, and other aspects of laboratory testing support and sample management within a GMP environment.

Example projects:
  • Hold time study for water for injection
  • Routine testing of clean utilities: carbon dioxide, oxygen, clean compressed air, and ambient water for injection
  • Maintenance and support of laboratory equipment and maintenance


Qualifications: 

To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

Education:
Applicant must be actively completing a bachelor’s degree (preferably in a science field) and have completed at least their first year of undergraduate degree. This is not available to anyone that has already completed their undergraduate degree.
