Economic Modeling and Mathematics Intern – Spring 2023

CASSE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of advancing the steady state economy, with stabilized population and consumption, as a policy goal with widespread public support. A wide variety of people have signed the CASSE position statement on economic growth - from scientists and activists like Vandana Shiva to economists like 2019 Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee. We are a small organization with a big mission, and we rely heavily on our team of motivated interns.
The economic modeling and mathematics intern will assist in modeling interactions among economic and ecological systems. This internship is unpaid for 15-30 hours/week (or as appropriate for university internship credits) and only offered to currently enrolled college students. This position will be remote for Spring 2023.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate would have a background in calculus and/or matrix algebra, with knowledge of economic modeling. Familiarity with statistical programs like R, SAS, or SPSS is preferable. Candidates will work on a long-term assignment with some small daily tasks differing by week. Research experience should be demonstrated on the resume with relevant academic and/or work experience.
Student with interest in sustainability preferred.
Supervision and Logistics
Supervision: The Economic Modeling and Mathematics Intern is supervised by the Ecological Economist. Given instructions and guidance, the Economic Modeling Intern is expected to be knowledgeable and self-motivated. The Executive Director prioritizes duties as needed and has final discretion on CASSE operations.
