Intern Program: 
The paid Summer Internship Program is an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a full-time BNSF employee. As an intern at BNSF, you’ll be given real-life, impactful assignments that will put your skills and education into practice. Your summer project will combine classroom experience and real-life business situations to provide value-added work to BNSF. 
 
The program is designed to identify students BNSF hires as full-time Management Trainees after graduation. During your summer internship, you will get the chance to network with peers, our Business Resource Groups, and Senior Leaders throughout the BNSF network.  
 
  • Kick off the summer along with a group of interns for orientation in Fort Worth, Texas. Attend networking events and informal chats with subject-matter experts, partner with a mentor, and get first-hand experience working in preparation for a full-time management trainee position! 
  • Potential for an offer of a full-time position after the internship

Salary Range: $4,625 per month

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the Manager of Environmental Operations with various tasks related to environmental compliance.
  • Specific areas of work include:
  • Waste management
  • Wastewater treatment
  • Stormwater management
  • Spill prevention planning
  • Asbestos abatement
  • Special projects
 
Additionally, qualified candidates must be able to:

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Primarily an office environment, with some field activities.
  • Normal office hours, Monday through Friday, with weekend or evening work as required.
 
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT:
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above for engineering majors OR cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above for non-engineering majors.
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or graduate degree program at an accredited university at the time of application and throughout the internship.
  • Less than four (4) years of work experience in a professional work environment. When calculating work experience, EXCLUDE internships or positions held while in high school or college.
  • Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship now AND in the future.
  • Ability to relocate to an assigned location within the BNSF Network for the summer.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Pursuit a degree in one of the following: Natural Science (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) or an Engineering program with an emphasis on the environment.
  • Graduation date prior to September 1, 2024.
  • Previous work experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills.
