Engineering Specialist, Weld (Body Shop)

That means we’re continually seeking diligent, driven performers who think creatively to help us find better and more efficient ways to manufacture our vehicles.

What you’ll be able to do:
When it comes to our best-in-class welding operations, your expertise is what will literally hold things together. That’s because we’re relying on you to lead the joining activities for a variety of assigned new model launches. You will:
  • Assess joining feasibility through Global Product Development System milestones.
  • Apply knowledge of welding processes, procedures, equipment, and evaluation techniques to deliver weld quality objectives.
  • Implement weld certification strategy during launch and product or process change events.
  • Lead weld inspection team.
  • Develop weld control plans and enforce requirements.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products.
  • Implement interim and permanent corrective actions to resolve quality issues using 8D tool, 6-panel, etc.
  • Identify sources of variation within a production environment effectively and efficiently.
  • Support expedited concern resolution with multi-functional teams including the Quality Dept, Production, and Suppliers.
  • Review incoming quality concerns to maintain quality within Body Area and initiate containment as vital, resolving root cause and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to work any shift, as well as rotating shifts and weekends.

The minimum requirements we seek:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering
Or
  • Associate's degree in Weld engineering with three or more years of welding and joining experience in a manufacturing environment
  • One or more years’ experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)

Our preferred requirements:
  • Previous experience within a high-volume production facility
  • Previous automotive, welding engineering and quality analysis experience
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and team building skills
