What You'll Do
The Y-12 National Security Complex and Pantex Plant are currently recruiting for summer 2022 internship opportunities in Environmental Compliance and Waste Management. The Internship Program is a 10-12 week program that offers challenging assignments, projects and career development workshops to enhance your professional growth.
Responsibilities to include:
·       Perform duties in support of the CNS Environmental Compliance and Waste Management Programs in areas of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Pollution Prevention/Waste Minimization, Historic Preservation and Waste Management
·       Prepare documents and reports, from basic to complex, which identify applicable environmental requirements that will impact projects
·       Perform and document assessments, both in-house and field, of operations and activities and make determinations regarding their conformance to requirements and standards
·       Provide support to operation managers with line ownership of processes, services or facilities having environmental record-keeping, and reporting responsibilities
·       This would encompass evaluation of various environmental compliance regulations including; Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); DOE O 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management; and applicable state regulations relating to the protection of the environment, workers and members of the public from chemical and radiological hazards

Minimum Job Requirements
·       To be considered for this position, applicant must be working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering/science discipline

Preferred Job Requirements
·       Knowledge of environmental management policies, issues, and initiatives related to environmental compliance and waste management
·       Knowledge of both state and federal environmental statutes, rules, and regulations preferred
·       Ability to perform duties while exercising initiative, independent judgment, and discretion under general supervision; with work being reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives
·       Ability to clearly and effectively communicate through the oral and written word and presentations 
·       Ability to performs scientific duties requiring technical skills and application of knowledge to make final recommendations of a highly technical nature with opportunity for exercise of initiative, independent judgement and discretion under limited supervision

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
 
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
