Seagate Intern - Facilities - Summer 2022

Location:  Bloomington, MN, US

About our group:

This Facilities Engineering Intern position will report to the Facilities Operations group at Seagate’s manufacturing site in Bloomington, MN. Working hours for this position are primarily M-F daytime hours. As an intern you will get to work with a variety of our staff, while working on real projects that provide lasting value to the Facilities Department and Seagate.

About the role - you will:

The Seagate Minnesota Campus will be renovating approximately 100,000 sf of the site to accommodate more lab space and constructing a 77,000 sf expansion to increase manufacturing capacity. These efforts will result in a lot of existing electrical, mechanical, and other equipment being decommissioned and new equipment being installed. To support Plant Engineering and Maintenance, all decommissioned systems will need to be taken out of the preventive maintenance (PM) system. All planned new equipment will need to have PM records created for them including type of service, frequency, spare parts, etc. This effort will require a gaining an understanding of the various building systems and how the equipment components are tied in to the whole as they are taken out.

Updating the PM records will require extensive work with the site Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls Engineer as well as the electrical and mechanical maintenance teams. Construction documents will need to be reviewed for all demolition and construction activities to identify the equipment being de-installed or installed. The construction schedule will be critical to understand when new systems will come online. Coordination with the contractor(s) to obtain system manuals and with the commissioning agent to identify when systems will be started up will be required. Additionally, scheduling system(s) training for maintenance staff with the contractor and commissioning agent will help ensure staff knows how to maintain the new systems.
In addition to this primary project, you may also work on other facilities projects as time permits.
