The Center for European Union, Transatlantic, and Trans-European Space Studies (CEUTTSS) at Virginia Tech is looking for a student interested in communications and design to help develop our brand.

Founded in 2020, the Center promotes excellence in research as well as in teaching and learning in European Studies, the European Union, and Transatlantic Studies. We aim to bring together university experts to create links among the various disciplines and resources in European and Transatlantic Studies at Virginia Tech, while cultivating connections with academic institutions both in Europe and the United States. CEUTTSS also pursues outreach and engagement activities aiming to foster a dialogue between the academic world and policymakers, in particular with the goal of enhancing the EU’s relations with the United States. In addition, CEUTTSS seeks to play a key role in reaching out to students and educators associated with secondary education, students of continuing and professional education, lifelong learning, the institutions of civil society, and the general public at large.

The Communications Assistant will work with faculty to advertise the Center and our events. Candidates MUST be willing and able to:

  • engage in an iterative design process to create visually compelling promotional materials
  • collaborate with faculty and staff in a professional manner, including regular and responsive communication
  • navigate social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram

Candidates MAY be interested in

  • participating in the organization and administration of virtual (Zoom) or in-person events (on VT campus)
  • developing our YouTube channel
  • other duties defined in consultation between the candidate and the Center.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be interested in design, self-motivated, and a good communicator. The candidate will be proficient with Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Forms, Gmail, Calendar); have some experience with graphic design tools such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, or equivalent; be familiar with the principles of good design.

Apply: Please send resume, a brief (one-page) letter of interest outlining your interests and any previous experience and a transcript at your earliest convenience. Review of applications will begin on August 23 and continue until the position is filled.

This is an unpaid opportunity, but students may use hours towards Independent Study or Undergraduate Research credits, depending on the student's preference.

Expectations: Teamwork with other members of the Center, clear communication on a regular basis whether in person, over email or Slack, accountability that tasks will be completed, active participation in developing project goals, and enthusiasm for learning and being challenged.
