Design & Applications Engineer Intern

KATO Fastening Systems is an Aerospace Fastener Company located in the Oyster Point Business Park (near City Center in Newport News, VA). It is a fast work environment, but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, more of a family, and will be a great place to start an Engineering Career as an intern. Our company consists of 10-12 self-motivated individuals with the responsibility of providing engineering, marketing and sales of high-quality fasteners and tools. Our product is manufactured to exacting U.S. aerospace and military specification and is sold through authorized distributors which serve defense and aerospace contractors and subcontractors in the North American markets.

Position: Design & Applications Engineer Intern

Seeking an energetic, self-motivated, mature individual to work with aerospace quality components/tools. We are looking for a candidate that can understand requirements for challenging application and can adapt to a changing market. Design, product testing, solving quality issues, and technical support are a quick summary of the position's responsibilities.

More detail responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare engineering analysis of projects to include preliminary designs and calculations, design of tools and components.
  • Provide technical support via phone and email for customers in the areas of product selection and customer application support.
  • Product / Customer product inspection and testing including results and reports.
  • Work with fellow engineers to develop / improve existing products.

Education / Experience Required:

The ideal candidate will have the ability to take initiative, to work independently (with minimal supervision) and use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and statistical packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports. Must be proficient in SolidWorks. Work requires the ability to understand "abstract" principles behind math and physics. Excellent oral and communication skills are a MUST!
