Campus internEXP - Leadership & Service Learning Project Manager

This position will support curricular service learning and leadership programming administration for VT Engage: The Center for Leadership and Service Learning.

We are seeking a student who is passionate about leadership and service. The vision of VT Engage is to equip civic leaders to create a more just world. The mission of VT Engage is to facilitate leadership, service learning, and civic engagement experiences that advance community priorities, contribute to the student development, and embody Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). This individual will be supporting two of the three main focus areas within the office; leadership education and service learning. This individual will enhance their own creativity and innovation in creating a new digital resource for service learning courses. This individual will provide logistic and digital support to the leadership initiatives within the office.
 
VT Engage is Virginia Tech's service learning, civic engagement, and leadership education center. We collaborate with communities, students, and faculty to cultivate sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships through engaged service, learning, and reflection. 

There are 7 full-time employees with two current vacancies. Additionally there are two Graduate Assistants on staff and a team of student leaders and exec board members. The intern will meet with all employees and many of the student leaders to better understand the nature of the Center's work and their contributions to the goals of the department. The dynamic in the office is very casual and flexible. We actively work hard to be inclusive and aware of identities and experiences both represented and unrepresented on staff. We take a critical approach to our work and regularly discuss the social, political, and economic dynamics and implications of our work.

The intern will work closely with the Assistant Director on specific projects which include:
·        Digital Literacy: A successful candidate will become knowledgeable about curricular and co-curricular service learning theory and practice and enhance professional communication and project management skills. Provide leadership on a data coordination project to support curricular service learning at Virginia Tech. This individual will work closely with the Assistant Director for Faculty Engagement to develop a tool to showcase service learning courses similar to this resource from Tulane: https://cps.tulane.edu/node/3286
·        Recruitment planning: A successful candidate will provide leadership on recruitment efforts for the I WILL Leadership Institute program, Lead for Good program, and ACC SLS program. This individual will work closely with the Associate Director for Leadership and Civic Engagement and the Director of VT Engage to create a robust recruitment and interview plan for these three programs.
·        Event Planning Skills: A successful candidate will provide logistical support to the I WILL Leadership Institute and Lead for Good program. This individual will help coordinate space, technology, and programming materials for these programs.

  • Interested in service learning and/or leadership education
  • Interest in learning about the operations of VT Engage and/or Student Affairs
  • Demonstrated organizational and professional skills
  • Particular attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
